Creating a peaceful space for students

Over the last week of August 2025, our team worked to transform part of the sports field at Weston Turville into a vibrant sensory garden. It is a calming and engaging space designed to stimulate the senses and provide a peaceful retreat for students. With the Stoke Mandeville relief road works beginning this summer and bringing disruption to the area, this garden will serve as a valuable sanctuary for the school community.

The space has been thoughtfully designed and mostly handmade, with many features created from repurposed items to keep the project sustainable. For example, the striking yellow centrepiece was made from an old radiator. Locally sourced herbs, flowers, and plants now fill handmade planters. One planter has been reserved especially for the children to plant themselves, encouraging them to discover the joys of gardening.

The garden also includes a variety of playful and creative touches such as a multi coloured archway, curved wooden benches, bird and bug houses, an outdoor xylophone, and even a disco ball. A fire pit adds a fun focal point, while the handmade elements give the space a warm and personal character. What makes this project especially meaningful is the teamwork behind it. Everyone contributed with real care and creativity, with our director Lee even coming in on the bank holiday with his dad to keep the momentum going. The school has been incredibly complimentary about both the finished space and the professionalism of the team. We are proud of what has been achieved and excited to see the students enjoy the garden, finding peace, inspiration, and a new connection with nature.
