Leading with Motivational Intelligence

Encouraging women into leadership

In 2024, our Director of Civils and Infrastructure, Lee McEvoy, was recognised at the Women in Construction Awards, winning the Design and Build Male Ally Award. This achievement marked more than an individual success. It established a meaningful relationship between our business and the Women in Construction Hub, leading to ongoing collaboration focused on supporting women both entering and progressing within the construction industry.

Our commitment to gender equality is reflected across the organisation. We have actively uplifted women throughout the business, providing opportunities to upskill, progress, and challenge long-standing gender stereotypes within construction. As a result, women now make up 53.85 percent of our overall management team and 66.67 percent of our labour management team. These figures demonstrate tangible progress and reinforce our belief that inclusive leadership strengthens both people and performance.

While proud of this progress, we recognised the importance of going further. Our ambition was to ensure all female team members felt confident, supported, and empowered to advance their careers. Through our partnership with the Women in Construction Hub, the Leading Motivational Intelligence course delivered by The Power Within Her was recommended to further invest in our female leaders. The course is specifically designed for women who are in or moving into leadership roles. It focuses on building confidence, strengthening leadership capability, and developing the skills needed to turn challenges into opportunities. We nominated five team members for the first intake, representing a range of roles across the business, including Labour Manager, Resourcer, Social Value Manager, Marketing Coordinator, and Onboarding Lead.

All five participants successfully completed the programme and described the experience as both inspirational and empowering. They returned with renewed confidence, practical tools, and a strong desire to share their learning with colleagues and help drive positive change across the organisation. Their enthusiasm and personal growth reinforced the value of the programme and its impact on both individual development and wider team culture.

In response to this positive outcome, we have committed to enrolling more women onto the course. This next step reflects our ongoing dedication to investing in our people and creating an environment where women are supported to lead, grow, and succeed within the construction industry.
