Thames Tideway West
The Thames Tideway Tunnel will ensure the capital’s sewerage system is fit to support its projected population for at least the next 100 years, and will tackle the issue of discharges of untreated sewage that currently enter the River Thames on a regular basis. BMB’s ‘West’ section will run from Acton in West London to Wandsworth in South West London and will incorporate seven separate work sites along the route. During the initial stages Reliable were supplying civils operatives and supervisors to assist with site set up over several months. We are involved in the shaft sinking, spray concrete lining works and the TBM drives on site, once the TBM’s are launched we will be supplying a wide range of Tunnelling Operatives, Supervisors, PIT Bosses, TBM Drivers, Leading Miners, TBM Back Up Crew, Fitters and Electricians. Whilst the primary purpose of the project is to reduce sewage overflows and improve water quality, Reliable are mindful of the historic legacy opportunity that we are presented with. Our office locations give us a great advantage to engage with local colleges and employment brokerages offering both diversity and back to work employment. In addition, we have several partnerships set up with various stakeholders, the most recent offering onsite training for all of our apprentices. Our Gold sponsorship with Women into Construction is already developing placement opportunities to increase the percent of women in the UK construction workforce and discussions are well under way with HMP Brixton to offer new skills to ex-offenders helping to get them back into the community. With an anticipated 4,000 direct, sustainable jobs created on the project during peak construction we are looking forward to creating significant opportunities which will help to boost local employment and prosperity within London.
