M5 Oldbury Viaduct

Reliable Contractors are currently supplying a range of supervisors, tradesmen, groundworkers, labourers and logistics to support the integrated delivery team for Highways Works on the M5 Junction 2 Oldbury Viaduct Improvement Scheme. The M5 is one of the busiest routes in the country, carrying a mix of traffic through the Midlands and onwards to routes in the north and south. Intervention is required to repair the damaged sections in order to prevent bigger challenges and further disruption in the future. The main works involved removing the surfacing on the southbound carriageway to investigate the condition of the concrete underneath. Damaged concrete is then being repaired and a new waterproofing layer applied. Reliable have developed relations with the JV Skills and Inclusion Manager to support the on boarding of apprentices and under- represented minority groups on the M5. This in turn has increased our involvement with Women into Construction who have added a new Project Manager to the region to support the M5 and surrounding projects. We now have a number of women working on site. The final phase will involve repairing and re-waterproofing the central reserve and installing a new concrete barrier to improve safety before the same work is repeated on the northbound carriageway. The project is due for completion in autumn 2019
